Beam and Block Floors

Beam and block suspended floor systems offer improved thermal insulation, when used with thermal blocks such as Aircrete, Bison, Hemelite, Topcrete or similar.
They also offer reliability and performance, whilst their lightweight construction and simple, system-build installation also means faster build.
Laying Aircrete Blocks

The result is not only a superior form of construction, but significant cost savings in many situations. It is now more popular than timber or solid concrete floors at ground level in new housing, and is increasingly the preferred solution for upper floors too. They are suitable for use in suspended ground and internal floors in single occupancy dwellings under domestic loading. Where high point loading is anticipated, such as in garages, a reinforced structural topping is used.

Typical Beam and Block Installation

KEY

  1.  Bearing on an internal wall with dual beam profiles.
  2.  Ceiling clips and hangers to suit beam profiles.
  3.  Slip blocks are available for use with beams.
  4.  Multiple beams where required to carry line loads etc.
  5.  Blocks may be easily omitted to accommodate service ducts.
  6.  Standard walling blocks of various densities to suit acoustic or thermal requirements.
  7.  Applied timber finish, screed or floating timber floor.
  8.  Beam spacing may be adjusted to suit spantload requirements.
  9.  It is normal building practice to lay the beams on a DPC in ground floor situations.
